Responsibilities

The Deputy General Counsel provides strategic legal advice and support to the organization on a wide range of matters, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance, employment law, contracts, and risk management. This role serves as a key advisor to senior leadership and assists in managing the legal department’s operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide counsel on complex legal issues affecting the organization
  • Identify legal issues relevant to the business and proactively educate leaders on these issues
  • Advise senior leadership on risk mitigation and compliance strategies
  • Support board and committee activities, including preparation of materials and compliance with governance requirements
  • Ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents
  • Advise on employee relations, workplace policies, and employment disputes
  • Manage litigation matters, including coordination with outside counsel
  • Mentor legal staff and assist in departmental planning
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active, unencumbered state license
  • 10+ years of legal experience, including in-house counsel or law firm experience
  • Strong background in corporate, regulatory, and employment law
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure
  • Leadership experience
  • Familiarity with risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to partner with operational leaders.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Prior experience practicing law in a healthcare environment
